It is a common saying among alcohol and drug users that the abuser is always the last person to know that he or she has a problem.  Everyone else knows, but as long as the user refuses to accept the fact that their using is causing trouble, he or she will do nothing about the problem.

Any person can be or become an abuser of alcohol and drugs.   All walks of life are affected.  Drug dependence, including alcohol, can have harmful affects on one's health, emotional life, social relationships, work and other responsibilities.

Drug abuse is a treatable problem, and if not attended to, it will lead to a progressive and sometimes terminal illness.  Often, too, legal problems arise as also do family problems.

Clients can be helped most effectively if their treatment is based on the least intrusive alternative.  If treatment is decided upon, out patient intensive programs are preferable.  These type programs have the greatest likelihood of maintaining effective social ties due to their multidimensional nature.  They also allow the client to retain a sense of personal responsibility for themselves and their recover

Sexual addictions are also treated.  Services are provided only to married couples in which one of the spouses is addicted to pornography or a sexual paraphillia which is a sexual attraction of an unusual or pathological nature or any of a group of sexual fantasies, urges and behaviors that are considered deviant with respect to cultural norms.

Dr. Rogers is a Clinical Member of the Association for Treatment of Sexual Abusers (ATSA).
