Hypnosis can be used to enhance psychotherapy for a number of problems. These include trichotillomania, migraine headaches, irritable bowel syndrome, fybromyalgia, smoking cessation, weight loss, panic and anxiety disorders, depression, ADHD, sexual dysfunction, and sports performance enhancement.
Pain management is available through the use of hypnotherapy. The July 1996 edition of the Journal of the American Medical Association featured an article on the effectiveness of relaxation techniques and hypnosis in alleviating or reducing pain. This approach is available at for treatment of chronic and acute pain, as well as for treatment of migraine headaches.
All hypnosis is self hypnosis. Clients are taught how to facilitate deep relaxation which helps lead to trance. Trance utilization is then taught. Suggestions are introduced regarding the use of our body's natural analgesics. Pain sensation is registered in the brain and we can teach our brains that some pain is unnecessary and serves no purpose, particularly that which serves no medical purpose.
